Source: Professional Licensing dataset (id pzzh-kp68) published by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) on data.illinois.gov. Version: rows last updated October 19, 2026. Downloaded and checked: October 21, 2026. Credit: IDFPR, data.illinois.gov.
Licence: the dataset is published under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0, attribution “IDFPR”. Illinois Executive Order 2012-03 asks re-publishers to identify the source and version and to describe changes, which we do here.
What we changed
- We kept license type PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT rows for licensed CPAs, registered CPAs and public accounting firm licenses that have a license number and an Illinois address.
- The dataset repeats a record once per disciplinary action. We merged those rows into one record per license number and kept every action (case number, action, dates and reason as IDFPR wrote them), removing exact duplicates.
- Names were changed from upper case to title case; city and county names were tidied (for example DuPage, St. Clair). Where IDFPR left the county blank, we used the county most often recorded for the same city.
- Listed: records with status Active and an expiration date that has not passed, with an Illinois address: 22,674 licensed CPAs, 945 CPA firms and 8,401 registered CPAs (labeled “registered, not licensed”). City pages count licensed CPAs and firms only.
- Check a CPA also searches the 37,974 records that are not current (not renewed, inactive, cancelled, suspended, revoked and others).
We do not offer the data as a bulk download. The original dataset is available from data.illinois.gov.
